MachinalYAT will next meet at the Peter and Paul Centre, Teddington from 7.30pm on Monday 23rd January 2023 where we will be holding an introduction evening for our Spring 2023 production, Machinal.
SYNOPSIS
"I never knew anything like this way. I never knew I could feel like this. So- so purified"
This spring, YAT presents Sophie Treadwell's masterpiece- Machinal. A story about a young woman, oppressed by the society that surrounds her and the constraints of a loveless marriage until she eventually succumbs to the temptation of an affair and the eventual murder of her husband.
Inspired by the real-life murder of Judd Grey, by his wife Ruth Snyder. The play premiered on Broadway in 1928 to rave reviews as it explored themes such as feminism, crime and freedom in a mechanical society, run by men.
An abstract set, stylistic movement sequences, intense lighting and sound will all converge together to create a unique and thrilling production in a way which is as visually appealing, as it is emotionally devastating. With plenty of character roles for actors to sink their teeth into, this is the perfect show for YAT! We are looking for performers with passion, energy and drive to help bring this story to life.
